BARAMATI: Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar called for better coordination between the agricultural sector and entrepreneurs in order to achieve development in rural India.
Speaking at the inauguration of the first world rural entrepreneurship conference organised by the Environmental Forum of India and World Entrepreneurs Forum in Baramati, Pawar said that while meeting the needs of 110 crore people, the country also needed to earn higher profits from the exports of agricultural produce.
The inaugural function was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, MP Supriya Sule, Joint President of the World Entrepreneurs Forum in France Turugal Atamer, Joint President Inderjeet Singh, Special Public Prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam and Convenor of the conference, Sunetra Pawar.
Sule said that farmers around Baramati are achieving progress through the cooperative movement. "Cookies made in Baramati are eaten by children in the USA and these are the fruits of globalisation," she added.
The two-day conference is being attended by representatives from all over the country and also from London, Singapore, Canada and France.
PAWAR’S PRONOUNCEMENTS
- In the light of increasing urbanisation, the Centre has decided to make provision of Rs 80,000 crores to provide various civic amenities in municipal councils in the country, Pawar said. He said that 14 per cent of the population comprised of senior citizens and various facilities should be made available to them
- Pawar also said that there was a considerable increase in kharif crop cultivation in the country this year and expressed the hope that the farming community will help to strengthen the country's economy. He said that kharif cultivation in the country was reviewed two days ago, in the presence of Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh. The highest percentage of cultivation was of pulses, he added.
