Pune: Gujarat Chief Minister and senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Narendra Modi alleged on Sunday that since the Maharashtra Government is not raising the issue
of installing gates at the Sardar Sarovar dam with the Central Government, it is losing energy worth Rs 400 crores from Gujarat every year.
While addressing a public rally in Pune, Modi came down heavily on the Congress Government in the state. He said that though the Congress is ruling in Maharashtra, it could not present its case to their own government at Centre.
The issue of installing the gates at the dam is pending with the Prime Minister (PM) since last couple of years. "I suggested to the Maharashtra Government, that if they install the gates, as per the contract, Maharashtra will get free hydro energy worth Rs 400 crores every year," he said. The file is pending with the Central Government but the PM is not taking decision on it.
Modi said that many power generation plants in the country have been shut down because of Centre's failure. "Many plants of 5,000 MW capacity have been shut down in Gujarat as they are not getting coal supply. Due to coalgate, the PM is not taking any decision on coal which is affecting the industry,'' he added.
Modi also raised the issue of terror attack in Pune. He said that as there is no law and order in the state, terrorists are targeting Pune.
BJP will scrap Pune's DP: Munde
BJP leader Gopinath Munde came down heavily on Nationalist Congress Party leader Ajit Pawar. Munde said that Pawar is ruling the Pune Municipal Corporation. The Development Plan prepared by the PMC had received 87,000 objections which is a record. If the BJP government comes to power in the state, it will scrap Pune's DP for 2007-27. Munde also assured that the BJP government will also scrap the Local Body Tax as it is being opposed by the traders.
