Ensure high-speed rail between Mumbai-Pune, Nashik-Pune Expressway: Cong

Mumbai: A high-speed rail connectivity linking Mumbai and Pune is the need of the hour, the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) on Thursday recommended to
the Democratic Front government, as it came out with a vision document to boost infrastructure. 
The document 'Vision Urban Maharashtra: Present, Prospects and Policy', has been prepared by MPCC's Urban Affairs Department headed by B A Desai. The report was released by MPCC chief Manikrao Thakre.

During the course of the monsoon session, the report would be presented to Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan, who holds the Urban Development and Housing portfolios. 

“High speed rail connectivity between Mumbai and Pune, Nashik, Nagpur will play a decisive role in urban development,” includes the report which dwells on the Golden Triangle involving Mumbai-Pune-Nashik. 

Besides, a modern airport at Nashik and Pune-Nashik Expressway will create new urban growth centres. As far as Pune, is concerned, it has recommended speeding up of Pune Metro, BRTS and non-motorised transport like cycling and walking. Similar initiatives are also needed for Nashik. 

The growth impulses from this triangle could be through efficient regional transport and be transmitted along Nashik-Jalgaon-Nagpur, Nashik-Aurangabad, Pune-Solapur, Pune-Kolhapur, Mumbai-Ratnagiri-Konkan. 

The report pointed out that the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor is also of critical important as it includes Nashik-Igatpuri Investment Region and Dighi Port Industrial Area.
